Why Nut and Bolt Modifications?

It’s happened again; you’ve made an improvement to your project that requires a part that doesn’t exist. You need a special nut or bolt, and nothing “off the shelf” is working. Where do you go with an entire order of nuts and bolts that need adjustment?

Rather than making totally new bespoke nuts and bolts (which can become costly with design, fabrication, testing, and adjustments), we can modify standard nuts and bolts of any size or material to meet your specifications. Non-standard parts can be modified from thousands of existing nuts, bolts, screws, and studs to perform like bespoke parts at a fraction of the price, and with good lead times.

We have over 50 years of experience modifying nuts and bolts at Allied Threaded and have become a trusted go-to manufacturing center for nut and bolt modifications. We can forge, turn, machine, and thread any part you need. Our fully equipped premises means that your supplies are sourced, modifications are performed, and QC is executed in-house, under the watch of our professional machinists.

Nut and Bolt Modification in our Houston, TX Machine Shop

As design and manufacturing grow more sophisticated, the need for specialty parts increases at a pace. Rather than create entirely new components, why not maintain a competitive edge while keeping costs down? Modifying existing nuts and bolts reduces waste, cuts down lead time, and eliminates the need for original design and fabrication.
Our team is ready to modify nuts and bolts to your exact criteria. Whether you order your own base components, or we source them for you, Allied is on your side. We are ready to make any modification, from simple to complex, utilizing the latest CNC and manual machining technology.

Allied Threaded’s machinists have decades of experience modifying, resizing, and re-shaping hex, square, and round nuts, as well as bolts, screws, and other fasteners. Our experience includes the manipulation of diverse materials including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, copper, and bronze. Some of the most common non-standard fasteners Allied modifies and manufactures include:

  • Screws
  • Bolts (extend, cut, safety wire holes, kotter pin holes)
  • Studs
  • Nuts (oversize tapping, jam nuts, slotted nuts, spherical face)
  • Couplings
  • Spacers
  • Standoffs

We have modified all kinds of parts and components for a myriad of industries. No job is too big or too small.

At Allied Threaded Metals, we perform modifications on any fastener, for any purpose. Often, this modification requires a specific skill: nut tapping. Nut tapping refers to the process of making a hole and threads in the nut of the fastening component pair. When a bolt or screw has been modified into a non-standard shape, the nut must be adjusted accordingly. The process of creating this hole is called “tapping”. We can tap any size nut, from slight ¼ inch to large 4-inch diameter pieces. In our Houston, TX machine shop, we have CNC machining tools called “tappers” to carry out this meticulous process. Our skilled machinists are experts in tapping oversized nuts with precision and care.

Whether you require non-standard threading, bolts with safety wire holes, or oversized nut tapping, Allied Threaded is here to help. We have the capacity, expertise, and experience to ensure that every nut and bolt modification is done efficiently, cleanly, and at whatever scale is required.
